Vision Statement
To educate and encourage the members of St. James United Methodist Church, constituents, friends, and the community to become actively involved in their own healthcare and gain new knowledge about causes of illness.
Mission Statement
The mission of St. James United Methodist Church Health Ministry Program is to empower its members by promoting awareness while using a wholistic approach to mind, body and spirit. The ministry will enhance the quality of health through education, prevention and spiritual enrichment activities/programs on an on-going basis.

Goal # 1: Promote a wholistic approach to health maintenance.
Objectives
Provide nutritional and meal plan counseling on individual and group basis with emphasis on healthy eating.
Incorporate spiritual enrichment into daily living through various avenues; including Bible Study, Prayer Groups, Daily Devotion, etc.
- Improve physical health and a sense of well being by providing classes that focus on physical fitness.
Serve as a channel for directing individuals to appropriate community-based resources when deemed necessary.
Goal # 2: Broaden the congregation’s knowledge about health issues specific to the African American Community.
Objectives
- Inform the congregation of diseases that are prevalent among African Americans.
- Provide resource materials and statistical data relevant to African Americans.
Goal # 3: Establish an education forum that will empower St. James faith community to take charge of their own health care.
Objectives
- Provide learning opportunities through workshops/seminars and written information on a monthly basis.
- Develop a Youth Mentorship program that will expose young people with interest in a specific health profession to individuals in related fields.
Goal # 4: Employ a Parish Nurse to coordinate and implement the activities of the Health Ministry.
Objectives
- Design a Position Description, which outlines the duties of the Parish Nurse.
- Identify funding sources to cover salary for nurse position.
- Establish guidelines to govern the conduct of committee members.
- Develop an evaluation tool to measure outcome of the program.
- Support all efforts to assist the healthcare program in becoming a meaningful and fulfilling experience for the members at St. James United Methodist Church.
