What is Transformation Confirmation?
Confirmation is the firming of one’s faith. It is a decision that youth ages 12-18 make to follow Christ. You will learn Christian basics such as baptism, communion, and salvation. In addition, you explore the history of the United Methodist denomination. At the end of the class, you decide if you want to firm up your faith. Those who are confirmed will become full members of the body of Christ and St. James.
How does the class look?
Confirmation class will be different every week.
Play games Read Scriptures View movies
Break into small groups Sing songs Eat food
You will never be bored. A variety of teachers, scholars, laity, and pastors will teach the class. In addition, you will visit local churches to see a how others worship. As well as participate in Confirmation retreats.
Can I be confirmed if I am not baptized?
For those who have not been baptized, you too are invited to the Confirmation class. If you decide to be confirmed at the end of the class, you will be baptized on confirmation day and confirmed as well.
Do I have to be confirmed?
When you are ready to declare your faith you can be confirmed. The Christian walk is a process. All youth will not be ready to make a faith statement at the end of the class. We all come to Jesus at our own time.

I am a parent, what is my role?
Parents, this is a big decision your child is about to make. It is important that you are supportive and praying with and for your child during this process. We will provide you with resources to help you start conversations with your youth regarding confirmation as well “homework” for you to complete together. Don’t worry, this will not be every week. Your consistent presence in this process is vital. You are important in your child’s Christian growth.
Be a confirmation mentor
Mentors you are likewise important in the Confirmation process. Mentors should be people who have been baptized members of the church. They are diligent in their relationship with Christ. Notice, we didn’t say perfect. Your role is not to have all the answers. Rather you are asked to create a meaningful relationship with a young person. What makes the mentor-mentee relationship work is that both are diligently seeking and learning to be disciples of Jesus Christ. You will be asked to meet with your mentee 5 times during the course of confirmation. We will provide you with the necessary resources/materials to discuss with your mentee.
