Mission Statement

Revised July 21, 1999
|
The mission of St. James
United Methodist Church is to serve as a center of
light for the lost; a safe harbor for the hopeless,
a place of peace for the painful; a happening for
the humdrum; and a place for praise, prayer, and power.
The St. James congregation, with direction
from the Divine, shall strive to spiritually shield
men and women from dangers and temptation. This United
Methodist body of Believers shall continually
and courageously confront the foul forces which cause
soul suffering; including unemployment, hellish housing,
ignorance, bigotry and attacks on the "somebodiness"
of the poorest and most powerless of God's children.
Further, the mission of the St. James
congregation is to proclaim and confirm to each individual,
and in the name of Jesus the liberator, their heavily
given right to enlarge their energy, widen their work,
drive their dreams, claim their clout and denounce
their demons.
Additionally, the St. James Church shall
live out, through its ministries, the words of Christ,
'Come to me'. 'Come to me', for the calming of the
soul-unrest and all other physical, mental and spiritual
needs. Sick, come to me for health; hungry, ask me
for food. Friendless, claim a friend. Hopeless, the
church will be your refuge. 'Come to me' for
everything.
This, by the grace of our Creator -
Redeemer - Lover, is what we shall do.
