Haiti Relief. Thanks to all who donated to the Haitian relief effort. We have sent $14,614.19 to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)! Donations Made to Haiti. If you have donated to charities providing relief in Haiti, you may be able to claim those donations on your 2009 tax return. Please visit www.irs.gov or see to your tax professional for more details. Lenten Offering. During the 40 days of Lent, each member is asked to make a sacrifice of $1 a day - $40 for the 40 days of Lent - beyond your regular tithe or offering. Give to the Lord and receive your blessing spilling over. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap... Luke 6:38 Baptisms. Baptism ceremonies are every second Sunday. Baptism information sessions are held on the fourth Sunday. Persons interested in scheduling baptisms should contact the church office to make arrangements to attend an information session. Little Lambs Nursery. The Little Lambs Nursery is open every Sunday 15 minutes prior to the start of worship. All children ages 1 to 5 years are welcome. Volunteers are always needed. Please see Ms. Tracy Gray or contact the Church Office for more information regarding the nursery. Attendance. Please sign the worship attendance sheets in your pew. HeBREWS Coffee & Fellowship. Join us every Sunday after 8:00 a.m. worship in the Ministry Mall for coffee and fellowship. Volunteers for HeBREWS Fellowship. We need volunteers to work the HeBREWS Coffee Fellowship each Sunday. Volunteers should be available one Sunday each month to help with set-up, greeting members and visitors, and clean-up. EXCITING WORSHIP Pay It Forward. Sunday, March 7th during 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. worship, Dr. Cleaver will preach on paying it forward. Invite your family and friends to be a part of St. James’ first “Pay It Forward Sunday.” After the message, Dr. Cleaver will issue a very specific challenge. Don’t miss it! Lenten Revival. Our Lenten Revival is every Wednesday in March at 7:00 p.m. during the Hour of Power. Our guest preachers are: March 3rd - Pastor Ronald Lindsay (Concorde Fortress of Hope Church), March 10th - Rev. Dr. Angela Washington (Asbury-Mt. Olive UMC, Topeka, KS,) March 17th - Elder Ervin Sims, Jr. (Mt. Carmel COGIC, KCKS) and March 24th - Rev. Harry White (Watts Chapel Baptist Church, Raleigh, NC). Lent is a powerful time for Christians to remember God’s love for humanity and to show that same love.
AUTHENTIC FAITH DEVELOPMENT
Lenten Leadership Study. The Governing Board and all ministry/ committee leaders are invited to participate in a special Lenten study led by our District Superintendent, Rev. Yolanda Villa. The study will be held each Sunday during Lent at 9:45 a.m. in the Vaughan Chapel. At least one representative from every ministry/committee is asked to participate. Girl Scouts. St. James Girl Scout Troop 3335 would like to thank everyone for the donations of items for the care kits to Haiti. We would also like to thank the parents, volunteers and all others for helping with 2010 World Thinking Day, on Saturday, February 20. We will be donating close to 600 care kits to the Heart to Heart Organization as our service project. We had overwhelming participation from other local troops, which included 130 Girl Scouts and 25 adult volunteers.
Children’s Church. Children’ s Church is held 2nd Sundays of the month. Thank you to our most recent volunteers: (8:00 a. m.) A.J. White and Leslie Flowers-Wilson (11:00a. m.) Kim Randolph, Sharon Cleaver and Marlon Holloway. A few more volunteers are needed for March, April and June at both services. Children’s Ministry Activities include: Acolyte (3-12), Children’s Church (5-11), Kid’s Kingdom Sunday School Classes (Pre-K to Grade 6), Little Vessels Ushers (5-11), and Praise Propulsion Dance Ministry (3+yrs). The Children's Ministry will be doing a mission project during March for the children who attend the Upper Room afterschool program at our church. Some of the children participate in the “Pack the Backpack” program which provides nutritious food/snacks for the weekend. The program does not provide these items over Spring Break, so we would like to fill the void. We need the following donations: small plastic jars of peanut butter, boxes of granola bars (high in fiber) fruit cups in light syrup, 100% fruit juice boxes and boxes of graham crackers. Please bring your donations to the church by Sunday, March 21. There will be collection boxes located at the church entries. Cash donations will be accepted to purchase snack items. Please contact Phyllis Battle at 816 531-2646 if you have any questions. Wednesday Mid-Day Bible Study. The Mid-Day Bible Study is studying the Minor prophets. Come exercise your body at 11:00 a.m. at the Senior Fitness Class; feed your soul at 11:30 a.m. with Bible Study; and nourish your body at 12:30 p.m. with a potluck fellowship meal. Safe Sanctuary Training. St. James will offer a Safe Sanctuary Training Saturday, March 20th at 10:00 a.m. All persons working with children (Sunday School, Nursery, Children's Church, Youth Group, VBS, etc.) are required to be Safe Sanctuary trained. Registration is $20. Church School. Attendance - 87 Offering - $616.85 COMPASSIONATE OUTREACH Christian Sympathy is extended to Phyllis Washington at the passing of her mother, Blanche Sims and to Mary Ward at the passing of aunt, Callie Watson, and her cousin, Walter Morman. Strengthening the Black Church Conference (SBC). Mark you calendars for April 16 & 17. St. James is partnering with Strengthening the Black Church for the 21st Century to present, "Connecting People WITH God in Practical Ways Leadership Conference 2010.” Rev. Tyrone Gordon from St. Luke Community UMC and Rev. Telley Gadson from St. Mark UMC will be are plenary speakers. We will also have workshops on worship planning, worship music, technology, and faith development. Please join us for this dynamic occasion. Registration is $25 and open to all clergy and laity. We look forward to seeing you there. Come and bring a friend. GriefShare Ministry. The St. James “GriefShare” Ministry hosts a support and encouragement group for persons who are grieving the death of someone close to them. We meet Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. in the Youth Room. Festival Of Sharing (www.umocm.com)The third Saturday of October is the day people of Faith from many different denominations all over the state of Missouri gather at the state fairgrounds in Sedalia, Missouri. Religious groups and families bring money and kits of various types (flood buckets, health kits, school supply kits, etc) to the fairgrounds in an effort to support various charities. Volunteers help to sack rice, beans and potatoes for distribution to Missouri Charity Agencies. The Festival, coordinated by Missouri United Methodist, is in its 28th year and generates approximately one million dollars annually. Terri Williams coordinates this ministry of The Office Of Creative Ministries (OCM). Employment Opportunity. Interested in an IT Career? GENERAL INFORMATION Prayer and Consecration. The Pastoral Team meets for prayer every Monday morning. If you have prayer requests/concerns, prayer cards are located in your pew. Please place your completed prayer card in the prayer box in the Narthex. Van Ministry. To arrange transportation for a Sunday worship service, you must call 816-444-5588, ext. 202 every Saturday before 6:00 p.m. Audio Ministry. If you would like to order a CD or DVD of Sunday worship or the Hour of Power, please place your order after service today on the second floor in the Sound Room. CD’s are $7.00 and DVDs are $10.00.
