Reverend Vogel joined the St. James staff in July 2001. He had previously served as Pastor
of the Troost Avenue United Methodist Church and the Kairos United Methodist
Church and as Associate Pastor of the Central United Methodist Church.
Immediately prior to his arrival at St. James he had served Interim Pastorates
at 5 churches in the Kansas East Conference.
Reverend Vogel holds degrees from the University of Michigan, BA in History; Depauw University, MA
in Philosophy and Religion; and the Yale Divinity School, Master of Divinity.
During his 20 year career as an Insurance Agent and Registered Representative,
he earned both the Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant
Professional Designations from the American College.
Having been a resident of Kansas City since 1966, Reverend Vogel was born
in Philadelphia, PA and attended elementary and high school in
Normandy, MO (a suburb of St. Louis). He is married to Tracy
Smith, they had three children: Emily is a student at the University
of Missouri Medical School and David is an attorney in Kansas.
Mark, his oldest son, died in a car accident in 1990.
In his spare time, Reverend Vogel enjoys reading historical biographies and mysteries and playing tennis.
He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Mental Health Association of
the Heartland and Life Care Planning.
